CS:GO Shadow Case | First CS:GO Case to Feature Shadow Daggers

Shadow Case Introduces Shadow Daggers to CS:GO

By 2015, the population of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players had continued to grow. This was largely due to the ever-evolving game along with the thriving economy for in-game skins. The game puts out frequent updates to help keep content fresh and bolster the market for rare and valuable weapon skins. This also occasionally meant introducing new ultra-rare items such as knives and gloves.

On September 18, 2015, a new update was released to fix animations and make other adjustments to gameplay. And one of the changes players were most excited about was the new weapons case with a brand-new set of knives.

A Look at the Shadow Case

Releasing almost 4 months after the Falchion Case, the Shadow Case contained 16 community-designed skins. The case requires a Shadow Case Key to open. The skins for the Shadow Case were announced prior to the case’s release by way of the Steam Community post. This is the first time skins would be announced this way.

One of the most important features of the case is the fact that it was the first case to allow CS:GO players a chance to get Shadow Daggers. This was the first case to contain Shadow Daggers and they were available in the Arms Deal finishes. These knives would later become available in other finishes, but players would not see another Shadow Dagger case until 2017 when they were available in Chroma finishes in the Spectrum Case and Spectrum 2 Case. More recently, players would be able to get Shadow Daggers in Gamma finishes in 2021 updates.

What’s Inside the CS:GO Shadow Case?

The CS:GO Shadow Case features a handful of popular and valuable weapon skins. While the case seems to have no official theme, most of the skins included feature darker designs with more muted colors, as opposed to the neon coloring players would see featured in later cases.

A few of the skins in this case have particularly interesting facts or features. For example, the G3SG1 skin was originally intended to be one of the two covert weapon skins for this case. However, instead, that honor would be given to the USP-S skin Kill Confirmed. The XM1014 Scumbria skin and the skin by the same name for the Five-SeveN are based on the Scumbria fish pattern. In addition, the Nebula Crusader for the M249 features a digital counter in the same location that the StatTrak counter would appear on the weapon.

The full list of weapon skins included in the Shadow Case includes:

  • Mil-Spec

Along with the assortment of skins, the Shadow Case holds the coveted Shadow Daggers in their original 13 Arms Deal finishes. The complete list of finishes in this collection includes:

Market Demand and Rarity

The Shadow Case itself has fewer than 35,000 current listings on the Steam Community Market. It is part of the rare drop pool, making it difficult for players to get in-game. When Prime Status players level up this week they get a case drop. However, 99% of the drops come from the cases found in the Prime drop pool, while only 1% of cases dropped come from the rare drop pool. With an estimated 28 cases in the rare drop pool, it’s clear that getting a specific case can be quite difficult. Regardless, the Shadow Case can still be purchased on the Steam Community Market for less than $2. When looking at the big picture, this is a rather significant increase that occurred beginning in the first half of 2023.

As far as the skins go, the USP-S Kill Confirmed skin in Factory New condition with StatTrak prices at over $700. The Minimal Wear version comes in at a respectable price of about $350. The M4A1-S Golden Coil skin fetches about $450 for Factory New condition with StatTrak. Other listings above $100 include various conditions of these two skins, both with and without StatTrak Technology. Players will also find the Frontside Misty skin for the AK-47. The remainder of the weapon skins tend to have list prices below $75.

The Shadow Daggers themselves have an exceedingly large price range depending on the specific skin. For example, there’s a listing for the Night version of the Shadow Daggers in Factory New condition for over $1,800 and another for the Crimson Web version with a price tag of $1,800. However, these two are priced unusually high in comparison to the other knives from the collection. Case Hardened Shadow Daggers will cost a player around $650, and Fade comes in at a price of $575.

Get Your CS:GO Shadow Case

Right now, players can still get this case as an in-game drop, though the odds are stacked against them. Depending on why they want the case, they may be better off acquiring the case through purchase or trade. If they’re after a specific skin, then it might be more cost-effective to purchase or trade for that skin unless it happens to be one of the more expensive listings.
