CS:GO Huntsman Case Introduced Huntsman Knives & A CS:GO Contraband Skin

The Huntsman Weapon Case: New Knives and Controversy

Every huge game is destined to have a massive controversy at one point or another. While there have been a few other cases with issues, one of the most controversial cases is the Huntsman Weapon Case. In May of 2014, the first update of the month would bring several drops to CS:GO players. The Bank Collection was added to the drop list, Community Sticker Capsule One was added, but the most notable addition was the Huntsman Weapon Case. While the focus of the attention on this case should have been on the brand-new Huntsman Knife, it was instead on what would become the most controversial CS:GO skin of the game.

Examining the Huntsman Weapon Case

Originally released on May 1, 2014, The Huntsman Weapon Case was the second community case in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive consisting of skins from the CS:GO community. Players need a Huntsman Weapon Key to open the case. The intended star of the case was the new Huntsman Knife. Introduced in the Huntsman Case, this extremely rare drop was created in the same finishes as previous knives.

Controversial Contents

On June 11, 2014, the Huntsman Weapon Case went through a major overhaul along with Community Sticker Capsule 1. As it turns out, the skin and companion stickers featured stolen artwork. The copyright infringement resulted in the removal of the M4A4 Howl skin from the Huntsman Case, along with the alteration of the design for any Howl skins already collected by players. The altered Howl skins were also labeled as Contraband and are now incredibly rare.

In addition, the same people who created the M4A4 Howl skin with stolen artwork had also played a role in the creation of several other skins. These skins were also removed from the Huntsman Weapon Case and replaced with alternates. However, their designs were not altered or given contraband status as they are all original artwork and were removed solely for their affiliation to the designers of the Howl. All of the removed skins, with the exception of the M4A4 Howl, can still be acquired via trade-up contracts.

The list of skins removed from the Huntsman Case includes:

  • Mil-Spec
    • CZ75-Auto | Poison Dart
    • P90 | Desert Warfare
    • Dual Berettas | Retribution
  • Restricted
    • MAC-10 | Curse

The new, updated list of skins available in the CS:GO Huntsman Weapon Case includes:

Market Demand and Rarity

The Huntsman Case, despite all its challenges, still exists in its modified version as a rare drop. The case itself has fewer than 3,400 listings on the Steam Community Market and goes for a price of around $10. Prime Status players can still acquire the case during their weekly level-up, however, they will only have access to the new set of skins.

The contraband M4A4 Howl skin currently has no listings on the Steam Community Market due to its extreme rarity. However, third-party sales sites have reported recent sales of the StatTrak Factory New versions of Howl for prices between $20,000 and $30,000.

Other skins include the high-priced StatTrak version of the Minimal Wear AK-47 Vulcan with a price tag of $1,350. The Factory New version without StatTrak is listed for just over $1,100. However, players won’t currently find any other weapon skins from the case selling quite as high. Next on the list is a StatTrak Battle-Scarred USP-S Orion for around $330, with the StatTrak version of a Factory New M4A1-S Atomic Alloy making an appearance at around $215. The remainder of the skins included in this CS:GO case seem to fall below the $150 price point.

As for the new Huntsman Knives, these ultra-rare drops are near the top of knife listings with an Urban Masked StatTrak listing for as much as $2,000 and a Fade finish for just under $1,300, but the bulk of the collection is available for less than $1,000. The most valuable Huntsman Knife skins from this collection also include Slaughter and Crimson Web.

Get Your CS:GO Huntsman Weapon Case

While the case does technically still drop in-game, the contents have been significantly altered since the original release. Therefore, if a player or collector is after the skins that are no longer included, they’ll have to trade or purchase to get them. When it comes to the M4A4 Howl, listings are few and far between. In this case, it’s best that players familiarize themselves with safe and legitimate CS:GO skin listing sites to have a better chance to acquire this contraband skin.

The Huntsman Knife skins sell for a large range of prices, so if a player is after a knife for their collection, then there are plenty to choose from in various conditions and at numerous price points. Or, players can always try their chance with the Huntsman Case – if they can get it to drop.
