CS:GO Spectrum 2 Case | Add Additional Chroma Knives and Other Skins to Your Collection

CS:GO Spectrum 2 Case Provides New Skins and More Chroma Knives

September 14, 2017, brought CS:GO to mainland China thanks to a partnership with Chinese online gaming company Perfect World. The launch in China gave the new players just joining CS:GO a free promotional in-game gift package including two stickers and one graffiti. After the promotional first month, the sticker capsules and graffiti capsules became available for purchase worldwide. Also included in this update were several gameplay fixes and, of course, an exciting new case dubbed the Spectrum 2 Case.

Taking a Closer Look at the Spectrum 2 Case

Released less than four months after the Operation Hydra Case and six months after the first Spectrum Case, the Spectrum 2 Case would be the last of three 2017 cases. Opening the case requires a Spectrum 2 Case Key. Inside, players will find another 17 weapon finishes designed by the community as well as another set of knives in the highly-coveted Chroma finishes.

This is the first year CS:GO players would see only three cases released in what would end up being a slow deceleration from six cases per year in 2013 and 2014 down to two cases per year beginning in 2021. However, while cases may be fewer and far between, the community still welcomed them with open arms.

What’s Inside the CS:GO Spectrum 2 Case

The Spectrum 2 Collection features both multicolored skins and minimalistic designs created by members of the CS:GO community. One fun feature about the Glock-18 Off World skin is that at a float value of about 0.53, the letters RIP appear and can be seen from an overhead view of the gun. From there, the higher the float value the clearer a cartoonish drawing of a skull becomes in the same area. The full list of skins in the Spectrum 2 Case includes:

Market Demand and Rarity

With fewer than 70,000 listings on the Steam Community Market, the Spectrum 2 Case still sits at a price point of less than $2. However, in recent months it does look like the price of the case has been climbing. Players should take a closer look at prices before making a decision on if they should buy or sell their cases.

As far as the skins themselves, a Factory New StatTrak version of The Empress for the AK-47 holds the crown with a listing price of around $450. Other versions of The Empress skin dominate the ranks above $60 when versions of See Ya Later, Leaded Glass, High Roller, and Llama Cannon start to come into play. When it comes to the Glock-18 Off World skin, Battle-Scarred versions don’t seem to command a higher price point despite the fact they have added graphics.

The Spectrum 2 Case knives tell a different story. The StatTrak version of the Damascus Steel Butterfly Knife has an impressive list price of $1,800. However, there are no other knives from the collection in the top 100 listings on the Steam Community Market. The next knife in the collection to show up in the listings is the Ultraviolet Butterfly Knife for around $1,200 followed by a Rust Coat version of the same knife right around the same price. So, while the knives from this collection are few and far between in the top 200 listings, some are still listed at well over $1,000.

Get Your CS:GO Spectrum 2 Case

While the case itself is listed at more than double some of the other available CS:GO cases, there are a few gems inside that could really make players some money. They then have to ask themselves if they’d rather invest in cases to open, knowing the possibility of not earning their money back. Or if they’d rather just buy the skins they’re after and wait for the cases and skins to increase in value.
