The Gamma 2 Case Offers Great Finishes, Knives, and a Skin from a Famous Artist
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a popular first-person shooter that took the world by storm after its 2012 release. Gamers from around the globe came together to enjoy the game, participate in the thriving economy, and collect weapons, skins, stickers, graffiti, and more for their collections.
August 18, 2016, brought another game update. This time, official game servers were added in Peru and several bugs were fixed. But the most interesting aspect of this patch was the exciting new Gamma 2 Case. Following in the footsteps of the original Gamma Case, the Gamma 2 Case held the same set of Gamma knives along with several amazing skins.
About the CS:GO Gamma 2 Case
From its 2016 release through to the present day, the Gamma 2 Case has always been one of the most popular CS:GO cases. The case was released only about two months after the Gamma Case and requires a Gamma Case Key to open. The Gamma 2 Case, like its predecessor, exists in the rare drop pool. Prime Status players have a 1% chance of receiving these cases or one of the other cases included in the pool when they level up each week.
What’s Inside the CS:GO Gamma 2 Case?
From Covert graffiti-covered designs to science fiction inspires weapons to sleek futuristic designs to more traditional designs and even a weasel, there’s something in this case for everyone. However, there is something unique about this set of community-created skins.
Typically, community-sourced skins are uploaded to the Steam Workshop. Yet there was one weapon that did not have a workshop page. When it comes to the Syd Mead for the AUG, it seems that this skin wasn’t sourced from the community after all. When viewing the item, players will notice the following text:
“It has been custom designed by renowned artist Syd Mead. In the past he gave us visions of the future; in the present he placed the future in our hands…”Syd Mead was an American industrial designer and neo-futurist concept artist. His designs were featured in several science fiction films including Aliens, Blade Runner, Star Trek, Tron, and many more. On December 30th, 2019, Syd Mead peacefully passed away at his home at the age of 86. A small piece of him will live on through his contribution to the Gamma 2 Case.

Market Demand and Rarity
With less than 38,000 listings on the Steam Community Market, the Gamma 2 Case is priced a little higher than the more commonly available cases. Players can currently purchase this case for less than $3. Both the Gamma Case and the Gamma 2 Case are in the rare drop pool. So while it is possible to get the case from an in-game drop, it’s not very likely.
Looking at the top 10 weapon skin listings for this case, it’s clear that the AK-47 Neon Revolution has claimed the spot as the most expensive weapon skin from the Gamma 2 Case. The top listing for a Factory New StatTrak Neon Revolution skin sits at just above $200. Other skins that make an appearance in the top 10 listings include FAMAS | Roll Cage, Tec-9 | Fuel Injector, and Desert Eagle | Directive.
Topping the charts for the Gamma Case knives is the Autotronic Bayonet peaking at just under $2,000. Also up in that price range, players and investors will find the Black Laminate Karambit, M9 Bayonet in Lore, and much more.
Get Your CS:GO Gamma 2 Case
Depending on what players are after, their approach to claiming this case or the skins inside might be different. Some choose to purchase cases and wait for values to increase. Others may purchase to open in hopes of acquiring one of the high-priced skins. Some collect just to fill out their extensive skins collection. Either way, with an opportunity to get the case from in-game drops, purchases, or trades, there’s no guarantee of what players may find inside.
If players forego case-opening for a sure shot at the skin they need for their collection, then hunting down the skin in the Steam Community Market or through trade might be the best path forward. Though there are other ways to get incredible CS:GO skins.
